God's Highlights

Highlights

God's Word is a lamp to our feet.  That is, God's Word glistens on, or lights up, the road ahead of us. We do not need to stumble around in the darkness of confusion or in that tunnel of voices which so easily distract us. 

God's Word is also a light unto our path. It's as if God highlights the best path for us to take especially when we come to a bend in the road.  Just as you and I use highlights to call attention to high points, to things of major significance to us, or to illuminate text that holds special interest for us, so God uses His highlights to emphasize things of importance as we read His Word or as we go about our daily lives. 

God's Highlights, well, stand out like Highlights. You could be reading a passage in the Bible when a word or phrase suddenly stands out to you, seeming to literally jump off the page into your heart! You may have read that passage many times before, yet on this day you can sense it speaking volumes to you in your heart. Or, you could be going about your day when Holy Spirit suddenly brings someone's face to mind and you just know you have to pray for that person. Or God could highlight to you that a change of attitude or focus is needed so you can rise to higher levels in the Spirit; or He could be highlighting ways that you could draw nearer to Him. Or Holy Spirit could be sounding a warning to you of things to come, or revealing what is in another's heart. 

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

John 16:13 

Hear What The Spirit Is Saying

God has many and diverse ways to speak to us. There are many channels He uses to get our attention. God speaks to us, as mentioned, most times through His Word. Yet He also uses other voices to get our attention. Ultimately it is up to us whether we will ignore the prompting of His Spirit or if we will pursue them. We will not hear God's voice if we do not pay close attention to His highlights. 

If a Word jumps out at you, or if you sense God might be speaking to you during the day, pause and ask if it is Him! God is more than capable of letting you know when He is speaking to you! Hearing the voice of God for yourself does not have to be a complicated guessing-game! He is capable of speech and will share His heart with those who will listen. 

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. ~Jesus.

Hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to you. It could change your life forever. 

Jesus, The Light of the World

Jesus is God's Highlight to the world. 

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I Am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Jesus is the True Light we need to find our way in and through this life. 

God is light. 

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. I John 1:5

If you think you have been doing pretty well in directing your own life, then you have not enjoyed the awesome power and privilege available to those who walk in God's light by faith! God knows what's coming around every bend. He has a good outcome for every storm that comes our way. And He knows how to comfort us when life becomes too much. 

Jesus was the light of the world from the beginning and He will be our light until the end. He is the light of Eternity, after all. 

The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.

Revelation 21:23

Be A Highlight In Someone's Day

You are the light of the world, too. Jesus said so. 

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.

Matthew 5:14‭, ‬16

If Jesus calls you a light just as He is and because you are His, then be a highlight in someone's day. There are hurting people out there. We all need a bit of light to shine on our day. 

Ask Holy Spirit to help you to be a highlight in someone's day. Listen for His prompting. Love others on purpose. Shine some of the light you have every day. Being a highlight in someone else's day could be just the light you need to get through the day. Live to glorify your Father in Heaven. Allow Jesus to shine His marvelous and true light through your life.
