Word Study: Paradidomi~He Gave His Life For Me
BYTES~ Word Study: Paradidomi~He Gave His Life For Me
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
PARADIDOMI
Gave Himself for me is PARADIDOMI in the Greek. Paradidomi is an interesting compound of two words: Para and didomi.
Para> denotes being near, beside or in the vicinity of.
Didomi> means to give, grant, commit, show or deliver (up).
Compound para+didomi and you get a word that means to deliver to one something to keep, use, take care of, or manage; to entrust to, to commit (something) to someone. Yet it also means to deliver up one to custody, to betray, deliver to prison. It is used to describe how Judas betrayed Jesus to the authorities.
Paradidomi~ He Gave Himself For Me.
As you can see, Paradidomi basically means to give, or entrust, something to someone to keep or take care of. That's what Jesus did for you, for me and for all who would believe on His name: He Gave Himself for us. He gave His life, sacrificed His life willingly on the Cross, to save us from ourselves, from sin and from the works of the devil. Because Jesus loved us He Gave His all so that we could be His and spend Eternity with Him in a loving Home, Heaven.
That is what Easter is all about and that is why it is the Season of our Joy! God did not abandon us, mankind, in disgust after the Fall. Instead, He had a plan a wonderful plan for the redemption of our souls, a plan that no deception of the devil would ever be able to lead us away from His love again. His plan was Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away a the sin of the world, our Saviour and Lord.
Paradidomi~He Gave Himself To Me
Now remember Paradidomi also means to entrust something to someone for safe-keeping. That is what Jesus does: He gives Himself willingly to those who receive Him into their hearts by faith, entrusting Himself, His heart, and the victory of the Cross over sin and death to them for keeps. Jesus also lovingly, and for Eternity, entrusts His Precious Holy Spirit to those who have put their faith in Him so they will be assured and have the guarantee that He will never leave them nor forsake them.
Do you know Jesus personally? Have you made Him your Lord and Saviour? Have you received God's Precious Holy Spirit into your spirit, the Gift of God come to dwell with you forever? If you have, then know that Jesus has given Himself for you, Paradidomi, because He loves you, wants you to have a bright and blessed future, and wants to spend Eternity with you.
Paradidomi~Give Yourself Fully To Him
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1
It is only reasonable and acceptable, and absolutely vital then, for us who believe to give ourselves, our hearts, our very lives willingly and gladly to The Son of God who loved us and gave His life for us, by the mercies of God, of course!
As we watch the world falling deeper into sin, willingly turning their hearts away from God, let us turn our hearts daily toward God that His will to save us from this present evil age will be done in us.
Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Galatians 1:4-5
This Easter, give yourself, entrust your all, your thoughts, your words, your actions to God in faith every day. Listen as His Spirit leads you to His green pastures. Do not follow the misinformation this world spues out at you, promising things it cannot keep. Instead, entrust yourself to The One who loves you, who cares deeply for you, who thinks you are to die for, who will never leave you nor forsake you, and who gave His life for you. Give your heart and your life to The Son of God.
