Word Study: Allos~ He Is The Same
BYTES~ Word Study: Allos. He Is The Same
John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.
ALLOS
Another is ALLOS
in the Greek and it means, another of the same sort. The night before Jesus was
crucified, He said to His disciples that when He has returned to His rightful
place in glory at the right hand of God, that He would ask His Father, the LORD
God Almighty, to send Allos Parakletos, Another Helper, to be with them and
with those who would believe in His name. Jesus kept His Word. The Allos Parakletos,
Another Helper, the Holy Spirit was sent by the Father on the Day of Pentecost
to dwell in and with Believers forever.
Another of the Same Sort
What did
Jesus mean when He called Holy Spirit Another of the Same Sort? He meant
another who is the same as Him.
Romans 8:9
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God
dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Jesus wanted
people to know that the Spirit the Father would send to live in them and to
guide them through life was His and the Father’s own Spirit, whom He called the
Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is Another of the Same Sort. In other words, He is
just like Jesus. In fact, He is just like God and He is just like Jesus,
therefore Holy Spirit is God and is Jesus. Best way to refer to the Godhead is,
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is God and
Christ in you, the Hope of Glory! And they are all One.
Deuteronomy
6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One! You shall love the LORD
your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
What Was The Allos Parakletos, Another Helper, Sent To Do?
The Holy
Spirit, Allos Parakletos, was sent to do in all believers what Jesus did when
He lived on earth. Parakletos in John 14:16 is defined as Helper, Advocate,
Intercessor, and Comforter. Jesus was all that to His followers while He lived
on earth.
1. The One
Who Is The Same was sent to Help.
Jesus helped His
disciples to draw nearer to God, to empower them to spread the Gospel, to overcome adversity, to endure persecution,
to weather any storm, and to have faith, while also meeting all of their needs.
The One Who Is The Same does the same. He is our Helper in every situation.
Holy Spirit:
a) Draws us
nearer to God
b) He walks
with us through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, teaching us to overcome
adversity.
c) Holy
Spirit remains with us through persecution, giving us the fortitude, courage
and boldness to endure.
d) He strengthens
our faith and gives us hope through His Word and the patience to wait on the promises
of God to be fulfilled in our lives.
e) Holy
Spirit also meets all of our needs in His way and in His timing.
2. The One
Who Is The Same Is Our Advocate.
Jesus was,
and still is, the Advocate between God and man, and the Advocate we can call on
whenever we stand accused by the accuser of the brethren.
1 John 2:1 My
little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if
anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
Holy Spirit
is our Advocate, too, when the devil accuses us before God. He is the best and
most skilled defense lawyer to have on your side. Let God the Holy Spirit fight
all of your battles. He has not lost one yet!
3. The One
Who Is The Same Is Our Intercessor.
Jesus prayed
day and night for His disciples while on earth. He interceded for them with the
Father praying that they would not give in to the weaknesses of their flesh, but
that they would resist temptation; and when sifted by the accuser of the
brethren, that their faith would not fail, that they would return to Him, ready
to strengthen their brethren who would inevitably endure similar things. (Luke
22:31).
Holy Spirit,
Allos Parakletos, intercedes for every Believer, too.
Romans 8:26-27
Likewise the Spirit helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray
for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of
the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the
will of God.
Jesus and the
Holy Spirit intercede for us day and night. Holy Spirit knows what we need in
every situation and He petitions the Father on our behalf to meet all those
needs.
Romans 8:34
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen,
who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
Hebrews 7:25
Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God
through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
We have not
been left to do life on our own. Holy Spirit is always with us, doing what
Jesus did for those He loved when He was on earth.
4. The One
Who Is The Same Is Our Comforter.
Just as you
feel warm and snug and safe all wrapped up in your comforter, so we feel warm
and snug and safe when are wrapped in our Comforter, the Holy Spirit! Just as Jesus
comforted and encouraged and exhorted His disciples to keep on keeping on, so
the Holy Spirit daily comforts, exhorts and encourages us to have faith in God
and believe for the best through His Word.
Romans 15:4
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we
through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
He Is The Same
Holy Spirit
is the same as Jesus. Holy Spirit is Jesus. Holy Spirit is God. He is the
Spirit of the Holy One, The Father who is in Heaven. He is not another spirit.
He is the Spirit of God. Jesus came, not only to die for our sins, to reconcile
us to God, and to destroy the works of the devil, He also came to send us The
Helper to help us and to lead us through life.
John16:7 Nevertheless
I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not
go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to
you.
Holy Spirit
is with you and He always will be. He is ever ready to guide you into all
truth; to remind you that Jesus alone is Lord over all; to tell you what God is
saying to you and about you; and to show you things to come. (See John chapters
14, 15 & 16).
You do not
have to guess if the Spirit in you is from God and Jesus or not. (Luke
11:1-13). Just look at the works Jesus did and then discern if what you see in
yourself is of the same sort. Holy Spirit, like Jesus, loves you, cares deeply
for you and always wants the best for you.
NB: There is still so much more to

with Him. Take time to look up the verses. Search for more using a Concordance.
Let Holy Spirit lead you and guide you to what He longs to reveal and share
with you about Himself.
Enjoy the
Journey with He who is of the same sort as our Saviour.
