Word Study: Dioko> Follow (Hard) After
BYTES~ Word Study: Dioko> Follow (Hard) After
Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12 KJV.
Dioko>Follow (Hard) After
Dioko is the Greek for Follow after and it literally means to pursue, to persecute, follow (after), or to press toward. Dioko is an old hunting term meaning to follow the tracks or the scent of the animal. Dioko depicts a hunter deliberately and intentionally searching for, following after and ruthlessly hunting his prey. The hunter is determined to never stop until he has found what he is looking for. He follows hard after what he wants, in other words.
Dioko>Follow After...
What are some of the things we as Believers should be following hard after according to the Bible?
1. Dioko, Follow After, These:
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
1 Timothy 6:11 KJV
The Holy Spirit, through Paul, instructs Believers in this chapter to flee from worldliness or acting on things that would dishonour God and His Word. Paul instructs us, for example, to work at our place of employment as unto the Lord; to not engage in disputing the Word but rather to wholeheartedly act on the Word in faith which is godliness, and to not love money more than we love God.
Instead, we as Believers should follow after righteousness, which is living to please God; we are to pursue godliness, which is acting on the Word in faith; we should be patient in tribulation, with others, and while we are waiting for God's will to be done in our lives. We are called to pursue love for one another, and to walk in humility, which is total dependence on God.
2. Dioko, Follow After, Peace.
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. Romans 14:19 KJV
We as God's children are to follow after the things which make for peace, building each other up while it is called today. We should refrain from spitefully and vengefully breaking others down, trusting instead in God to avenge us in His time.
3. Dioko, Follow After, Peace and Holiness
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Hebrews 12:14 KJV
We should follow after peace and holiness, Holy Spirit says, in order that we may enjoy God's Presence in our daily lives which is to see God. Being argumentative, living in unforgiveness, and unholy living prevents us from coming into God's courts and into His Presence with thanksgiving and joy. But Dioko, following after, peace and holiness ushers us into God's Presence every time.
4. Dioko, Follow After, That Which Is Good
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
1 Thessalonians 5:15 KJV
Following after that which is good is not pursuing what our flesh wants, but it is diligently following after God's will and adhering to His way of doing things in every area of our lives by His grace and under the leadership and guidance of His Holy Spirit. It is our responsibility, while following after whatever we are seeking in life, to ensure that we are continually in God's will, following His good plan for our lives. If we want to see good in our lives and live in and enjoy all that God has in store for us we must needs follow after that which is good.
Dioko>Follow Hard After Your Dreams!
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.
Follow hard after your dreams. Make up your mind to always follow hard after God's Best for you. Be determined to reach your goals. Reach ever forward with confidence and complete trust in God that He will give you the strength and favour to fulfill all the Godly desires of your heart.
Do not allow anything or anybody to distract you or draw you off-course from what you want to see happen in your life. Do not let anybody talk you out of your dreams or out of what God has said is possible to you!
God has a good plan for your life. In order to see that plan come to pass, though, you must be like the hunter, deliberately and intentionally searching for, following after and determinedly hunting for what you are believing to see come to pass in your life. Dioko is just that: following hard after what you want without quitting. That means never giving up on your dreams, never settling for second-best, and always being ready to follow God's road map for your life, no matter where it takes you.
Whatever you are aiming to achieve whether your goals are corporate, business, spiritual or life aspirations, go for it! Put no limitations on yourself nor on your God! Reach ever forward to what God says lies ahead for you. His plans are always to prosper you, to raise you to a higher level, to bring His best to pass in your life, and to draw you deeper into Him so your life can bring glory to His name.
Above All, Dioko>Follow Hard After Jesus
There is one more thing we must pursue above all else and that is to follow hard after Jesus throughout our lives.
Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the Throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2 KJV
When Jesus becomes the focus of your life and the object of your desire above else then you will reach your dreams, overcome obstacles, see visible changes in your health, relationships and life, and you will get to see great and mighty things which you have never seen before!
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, Neither have entered into the heart of man, The things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10, 12 KJV
Dioko>Follow Hard After God's Best For Your Life
Following hard after God's Best for your life is the wisest choice you can make for your life. Not only will following after God impact your life positively but it will be a good example for your children and children's children to follow in their own lives. Through your positive example of living by faith and never giving up, you can inspire your generation to believe in God and to trust Him with their lives.
Follow (hard) after God's Best for your life. It is a life worth living.
